With all the gorgeous weather that accompanies summertime, it is a perfect opportunity for early morning walks and evening strolls. I often find myself entranced by the gardens along the sidewalks and gazing at the beautiful historic homes that dwell in my little town.
As the dawn awakens and silence surrounds me (but for the pitter patter of my dog's little feet) I am captivated by the secrets within these lovingly restored houses.
Not for now or today but each ones' occupants from years gone by. The fires in the hearth, games in the parlour, the aroma of fresh baked bread cooling in the kitchen... ahhh yes my imagination does wander.
And even though time has passed into new centuries, the fundamentals of life have not.
We still cherish; family and friends, dreams and wishes, comforts and home...

I often wonder the same things when I walk every morning. You become accustomed to seeing the same people coming and going and if someone's yard hasn't been mowed or a diffrent car is in the driveway than you are use to seeing you began to wonder if everything is okay. And when a moving truck pulls up to a house that has been sold you start the process all over again. I wonder what they are like? Do they have children? Are they career people? on and on it goes sorta like a merry-go-round

I'm the same way...we have such old farmhouses here and when I walk I imagine the life that use to take place in them...many of the old family farms still run here..but a lot of them have shut down...perhaps are rented out..or are occupied by family still..but who no longer farm....
Thank you for stopping by for a visit...:)
Hugs,
Doreen
What a lovely neighborhood you stroll! Each time we have moved, my first thought is what are the stories of this house? And the families who lived here.
Susan, what a beautiful town you have to enjoy:) the homes are truly lovely!
Oh! What gorgeous homes! It is impossible not to think of all the life they've seen. Ive always loved old houses....hope one day to have one of my own...what a lovely place to stroll-- you are very lucky!~
Domesticity in all of its finery abounds in beautiful old homes. Imagine on and enjoy those walks, Susan. And please continue to thrill us with your gentle observations.

Lovely post! I do the very same thing. I cross over into our historic district when I take my walks. My minds eye wanders down the same paths as yours as I walk along.
I'm so glad you were able to get a copy of the Artful Blogging! I could see your whole adventure as you described it! I'm still stunned by this publication. The other artist’s blogs are too scrumptious and amazing for words!
Hugs!

Charming historic homes filled with mystery of days gone by..it is wonderful to have the luxury of living in one of these homes.I know your town well and I would agree that there are so many streets lined with delightful historic well kept homes.
Gulp.....hot sweat......words like stunning and oh... come to mind. I want to be in the room that is behind the sash window, can I be the shadow that moves across the dusty frame, or can I dance with the autumn leaves that gather around the porch at sunset.
Yes Susan once more you set my imagination into a twirl!!I shall dream here tonight my friend thankyou.
Hugs and more hugs
Lynn xx

Your post seems to have stirred a lot of memories. For me I particularly remembered biking through Yorktown, Virginia when I lived there some years back. I was always moved as I thought about the soldiers who had been there in that same spot where I enjoyed my daily bike ride.
Thank you for your wonderful blog.

That is one of the best beauties of your little town -- the history that is still ripe and rich and there for the viewing!
