I've often pondered the evolution of the gate...
Perhaps early in history gates were as much a part of keeping evil out as protecting those within.
As gentler times emerged they became a place to pass through, to find the secrets held within, enter a garden or a welcome to one's home...
So open the gates of December and let its wonderment and celebrations begin...
" Every year at just this time,
In cold and dark December,
Families around the world
All gather to remember,
With presents and with parties,
With feasting and with fun,
Customs and traditions
for people old and young."

Something magical about gates. As these pictures softly say.
I love the mystery of a gate - the promise of something interesting beyond...........
This summer we deer-fenced 2 acres and so needed to put an 8' gate on the driveway. It's a light gate and I think it says 'welcome' at the top of our little hill, rather than 'keep out' (except for deer!)I like the idea of swinging wide the gate for December to enter!
Oh boy, am I ever lovin' these gates. That first one is gorgeous...but I even love the humblest of gates here. There's just something about entering somewhere with a gate. A real welcome home feeling.
Hugs,
June
oh, my...the first picture is so pretty...i love that look!!!
There is something about a gate or a doorway. I love arches too and secret doorways in walls and gardens. A sense of mystery but also of homecoming. The gate in the snow is beautiful and you wonder about the 'big house' that it undoubtedly leads to ...
Another wonderful post Susan.

Beautiful post on the "opening" of a new month. I rather like the idea of the gate opening to a secret garden of endless possibilities.
Happy December to you!

Yes, December is here and with it, it is officially winter...such a pretty time of rest. Beautiful gates..I like the iron one the very best...so regal and grand.
