What's In A Name?
I've often wondered how the names we gift upon our pets come to be...
My dear sweet Maddie (this blog's namesake) proper name is Madelaine Grace, joined our home almost 10 years ago and has added to the harmony and chaos ever since.
My daughter's dog Kai that lives in Alberta was a rescue puppy she took into her home and her heart.
My two cats LingLing (Empress Ling) and LuLu (Tallulah when scolded) are a lovely pair of Siamese. Vocal and mischievous they add a dimension of adventure, conversation and humour to the household.
As I journey around my favourite blogs and new ones I encounter, I seem drawn to those that share a critter or two (or more) in their lives...
Perhaps it is simply that these devoted pet lovers have a common bond in their hearts too...
So hug your partner, cuddle your children and on this special day we call Valentine's don't forget the furry, feathered and smooth skinned ones as well...
And you lucky Gals in the UK with the wonderful photos of your coveted snowdrops , mine are out there too, just under that snowpile that should be melted by June...

It's easy to forget that February 14th still means snow in most of the country.
Your family dogs and cats are beautiful - those blue eyes are stunning! I don't know what I'd do without wee Rory, our cairn. He seems to need a cuddle just when I do!
What would we do without those little critters that bring such joy to our lives.Maulie and Morris are my little shadows all day and I am so lucky to have two such funny pets. I loved your pictures of all your cute animals.Cheri
Happy Valentine's Day Susan! What a sweet picture of Miss Maddie all snuggled up in bed! (: What would we do without them..I can't imagine my life without Sugar! Love your pics! I hope your day is filled with much love!
hugs~Kathy
Oh you funny girl...you will be lucky if that huge pile melts by June. (I have one just like it in the back of the house) I am thinking I will see the grass about June too)
Isn't it wonderful having these sweet little friends around us. T.T. Rabbit aka Tiny Tim, Is anxious for the snow to melt so he can chase butterflies again!
I love your furry family so much.
Hugs
And as they say "a rose by any other name..." ;)
I am hoping there are pretty flowers under all my snow as well.
Hope you had a beautiful day!
xo Catherine
Oh Susan I can see how very special your critters are to you...all so gorgeous!!! Our little doggie Paris got her name while I was nursing her when she was a baby thinking of a name for her...I looked up and say a poster of mine that said Paris and thought 'perfect'!!! Our kitty is a smokey colour and yes, her name is Smokey!!! Happy Valentines Day to you on this special day...Dzintra
I've often wondered about the repercussions of names we bestow on our pets. I would never name a horse Thunder or Lightening that's for sure! Imp was bad enough.
What beautiful cats. My Grandparents had two wonderful seal points when I was growing up, Abbey and Oliver and they were this girls first impressions of the animal kingdom. They were a loving and patient pair. And Maddie is adorable as always. I couldn't imagine Valentines Day (or any other) without a critter or two (or more) in my world.
Oh poor snowdrops!!
All your pets are so lovely. I agree about names they're really important.I once had a kitten and we had to keep changing his name because each one we chose just didn't seem to hang-right on him.;))
Hugs Jane
Me again! Just replying to the question you raised when you visited. No, the house in the blog-header isn't the one I speak of alas I don;t have a photograph of that and it was knocked down many moons ago. The house in the header was my Aunt's, she was Headmistress of a school she ran there way way back.
Have a good week,
Jane
I was looking on the internet at blogs and when I saw your dog Maddie , I had to stop and read!
Your Maddie looks like a sister to my Kenzo (named after the perfume by Kenzo) he is a maltese x shih tzu and verrrrrry naughty! LOL
Your pet family is precious! How would we all manage a day without a pet kiss (or two,) and a good cuddle.
Snowdrops...they are but a wee memory from last season. Somewhere, beneath the great heaps of snow, they are hiding. Oh, the anticipation...
Happy day to you,
Judy
Cute post! Love the photo of Maddie tucked in for a nap! :) Hope you are staying warm.
Just wanted you to know I nominated you and your wonderful blog for a Stylish award! :) What can I say, Maddie and her friends are terribly stylish. She's such a cutie! When time allows come check it out.
Susan, your pets touched my heart. We have had so far in our life three dogs and 10 cats and now have two granddogs and one grandcat. I miss all the ones who are no longer with us. They make a home feel warm and cozy, you can laugh at their antics, cry into their fur when sad, and just cuddle.
They always have time for you and love, love you no matter what.
What great friends they are to us !!!
Many hugs, Evi
aww, sweet post...such a nice name...madelaine grace...and she's a cutie, too. Had to chuckle about the snowpile melting by June...it's snowing here right now...enough already...and we haven't had near as much as your side of the country has.
Rene
I really hope its not there in June ha ha .... You are surrounded by a lovely family, and its so much joy that they bring into our lives isn't it xxxxx
Love Lynn xxx
I like to wait to name my animals but often I rescue them and they have had a name for many years so I just keep it. Love your Siamese cats. They are exquisite. Deb=^..^=x5 Ottawa, Canada
I had a Siamese cat growing up who was named Ling. I grew up with Siamese cats and still love the beautiful breed today. Of course, Kramer would not tolerate sharing his throne as king cat so there are no other cats in the house:).
Blessings,
Kim
Wow I popped in to see Miss Maddie and got to meet the rest of the clan. What a sweet group of four-leggeds you have here! I want to hug them all. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.
Cheers,
Holly
