A Woman Named Pandora

Pandora was the Greek Eve, the bringer of all sorrows for mankind.

* Illustration by Nick Beale 1995

Over the centuries she evolved and her sealed jar (a gift from the gods) became a box. Even her name mellowed meaning "all gifts"- the good as well as the bad.

She has been portrayed in movies and artists have painted or drawn their interpretation of Pandora a multitude of times.

Just this past weekend I discovered an engraving by Jean Gustave Jacquet of 'Pandora's Box'. Finding it most endearing I purchased it.

Sometimes I think I live in a Pandora's Box; every time I open a closet I never know what lies behind the door!

Hello Susan,
I was always mesmerized by the tale of Pandora's box...one of my favorite tales....How fun to treasure hunt in an old closet! Can I come too? Pinkie

Susan,

What a beautiful engraving. When I think of Pandora's box I think of a jack-in-the-box. You never quite know what or when to expect a surprise.

Susan, thank you so much for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Things have settled some but I/we still feel like we are adrift in a sea of sorrow. No time to really think of things except when you lie down at night and then fatigue sets in. The children are doing okay. Josh returned to school and seems to do okay but at night I can tell he is in his own little world thinking about his mom. Bella still is trying to sort out what's real and what's not. I will keep you posted as things progress.

God Bless,

Kris

Hi Susan..Why is this dubious accolade always given to women....worrying.....
I love the picture though, what a fortunate and beautiful purchase, you must be really pleased with that.I loved your dresses on the previous post the darker patterned one was my favorite, it has an earthy look like it has been worked in.
I hope you are keeping well, and enjoying the autumn colours...we have some sunshine here at long last, and it is making everyone quite giddy with the pleasure of it.
Hugs Lynn xx

You live in Pandora's Box? Thankfully you're willing to share all that you find!! And I guess it's good it's only a box. Any bigger and we'd never see you again. You'd be buried treasure!!
