Bountiful

More often than not each of us captures a moment from a season that lingers with us... carried on to the next one, sometimes through the years.

As the subtle hints of Autumn begin to appear, it is the bounty of the harvest that will remain with me throughout the coming months into the harshness of Winter and the freshness of Spring.

For you see every time I open a jar of cherry jam to spread upon my toast, peaches to partake of for dessert or sweet garden tomatoes smothering a pasta dish... the aromas of Summer shall return, igniting my memory and my taste buds...

Madelaine dreaming of cooler days and mosquito free evenings.

That first photo made me long for Ontario and the fruit and vegetable stands. Your lush, warm summers make all of that possible, while our tomatoes struggle to ripen on the vine. (I've become somewhat of an expert on doing things with green tomatoes!)
I thought of you this week when I found a very interesting book in the library - presently reading "Queen of Fashion - What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution".

I quite agree with you - I love capturing all of those tastes in a jar! Unfortunately it is not really hot enough here for peaches!

I couldn't agree with you more! When my shelves are lined with jellies, jams, and sauces... and the freezer is loaded with corn, green beans, berries and more... I go "ahhh..." Your photo is perfect to underscore the "ahhh..." factor! Madaline looks like she's ready for fall too! (:

I agree that canned veggies are wonderful in winter! I used to can everything from our garden in NC and loved the freshness of summer veggies in the cold of winter.

BTW, Madelaine is a cutie!

Blessings,

Kim

Your Summer bounty is like a beautiful still-life!
We tasted wonderful home-made peach jam on a holiday in Sicily one year - it was lush!
Thank you for all your lovely comments over at mine!

Have a great week.

I love a stocked pantry too... especially on a cold winter day when I can serve up a dish made with Summer's bounty!

Hi Susan,
I just love the fresh veggies and fruit from the garden. There is nothing more pleasing to the pallet. We just harvested the plums from our plum trees and am still waiting for the pears and apples to finish ripening. We are hoping in the next couple of weeks they will be ready. But we have been enjoying fresh veggies daily, I love this most about the summer. I hate to see it end.
I hope everything is going wonderful by you, Have most wonderful weekend!!!!!

There is something very satisfying and rewarding about harvesting, about thrifty jams and clever chutneys, that evokes a safe feeling, a feeling that all is well with the world. I love this post and little madaline so comfy so sleepy, it paints a beautiful picture of your home Susan, I will be over later(I wish) with scones for the jam.

Madelaine is adorable. I too have been dreaming of cooler days and mosquito free evenings..they've been horrible here recently due to all the rain we've had. Thankfully we've had several very cool nights..and they seem to have gone on their merry way.

Your description of the bounty of your harvest had my mouth watering.
