Life

I often cocoon myself from the perils of the world... choosing to stay sheltered from its harm and sadness.

But these past few weeks of flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis and the sudden death of a family member, Father of four, not yet 50 has brought me out of the confines of my paradise to the tragedy that befalls us all.

As with most faces of disaster we learn to pick up the pieces, reunite and move on...
Cherish every moment you have with loved ones be they human or four legged, devote yourself to finding the beauty in everything that surrounds you and indulge in time for yourself...

I for one have picked up my knitting needles and handspun wool (from a girlfriend that has spun and dyed these threads of delight) to pursue one of my Wintertime passions and once again shelter me from harm...

I am sorry you are undergoing tough times - it can be so difficult coping with such things. But sometimes the act of creation can help - I know I find knitting especially is a good therapy for me. I'll be sending kind thoughts over the ether. With best wishes

So sorry that you and your family, have suffered the sudden death of a too-young family member.

And yes, it is well to have such sadness, focus us more on the love we should be showing to those who are still with us.

The whole issue of sheltering myself from "the news," or not doing so... Is such a problem for me. I get burnt out, and want to curl up in coziness, and close it all out. But then I worry, should I be paying close attention and doing my part?

-sighhhhhhhhh-

I know I can't let myself delve too deeply into "the news," anymore... My health will not allow it.

But neither can I fully hide in my own quiet coziness. -sigh sigh sigh- If only I were one way or the other, it would be simpler, I think.........

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The last several years have been trying for me but in July when I lost my only brother I realized just how trival material things can be. You are right to shelter yourself with something that is comforting and soothing to the soul. I wish you the best.

I am so sorry Susan for your personal loss, and for your feelings of hopelessness in the wake of these awful disasters.

As ever, your post has a careful stillness which is both heart-searching and comforting.

Best wishes. Jeanne x

Dearest Susan,
Thank you for coming across my blog post on ballet and leaving such kind words. In the midst of the obvious disasters and losses, unkind words prevail daily in our lives, and it is refreshing to hear positive things. Blogging is my creative refuge and it is marvelous to meet such kind people as yourself. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Yes, your creative work is a great way to keep momentum. God bless you, Anita

I am sure it is not an accident I read your blog today. Your words here are very comforting. I am very sorry for your loss and hope your knitting and crafts bring you a little peace at this time. I really think it is the small daily rituals (like a cup of tea)and rythmns of daily living that can keep us going when times get tough.
Best wishes to you and your family,

Gillian

Susan, My heart is with you. I know exactly how you feel. Been there too... and in reading the other comments here, I know none of us are alone. Many of us feel the same... both from personal losses and the craziness of this world we live in. We can find some measure of solace in eachother's company, and I'm thankful to have found so many wonderful people right here in the blogosphere. Amazing isn't it? We live spread out over the globe, and yet have so much in common. Vicki xx

I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss Susan. You are in my prayers. Last year my brother-in-law passed and my SIL stayed by his side and engulfed herself with various crafts as she nursed him. So, yes these little things can help comfort and heal. Hugs to you.

The wonderful thing about knitting is that it reminds us life is not one stitch, but the whole. Today may be discouraging, but overall, it's good. Enjoy creating with those beautiful yarns!
