Sleigh Ride

Here in the North the arrival of Winter is often accompanied by the delightful falling of snow. The first heavier accumulation of the lacey, diamond-like crystals fashions one to envision the picture postcard recollections of a Currier & Ives print; complete with a horse-drawn sleigh and the romance of a Victorian outing...

So imbedded in our imagination, we often find ourselves relinquishing to the seductive portrait.

Or perhaps it is just a reminiscence from childhood of that jolly old elf in his magical sleigh...

* Currier & Ives print
* Paintings by Walter Campbell

If I close my eyes I can imagine myself in a sparkling, cold landscape - sun shining, sky a brilliant blue. I'd let myself fall back into the powdery snow to make the perfect snow angel.
Out here on the coast the winds have been howling for two days - no snow, but the sky is a lovely blue. The power has been flickering off and on, but we're cosy by the fire.
The Campbell paintings remind me of paintings by an artist, Tricia Romance, who was very popular in the 80's. Am I correct in recalling that she lived in Niagara on the Lake?

how lovely...still waiting for our first snowfall here...we have only had a few teasers so far, with a few flakes blowing around...but no accumulation...which is fine with me...i would be happy with just a little snow for a white Christmas...

I love the romantic ideal of a Victorian Christmas, just as in these wonderful pictures. A time of friendship, happiness and blessings. Skating on frozen ponds and taking a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through a snowy wonderland! Beautiful!

I love the Christmas card images-they are so lovely! It's funny that I associate snow with Christmas even though it is usually very warm (60's-70's) here on Christmas Day:).

Blessings,

Kim

Lovely paintings, lovely post. Aww, snow! Does Madelaine disappear in the snow like our Roscoe? They both may need a red scarf around their collars to be found!
