Connections

Our strongest connections to memory are those which are inspired by scent...

Even enabling us to venture as far back as childhood and the scent of early roses in Grandmother's garden...

Strawberry jam cooking in the kitchen...

A beautiful clematis clamoring up the wall of a secret hiding place...

And oh yes Madelaine is trying to get a whiff of that biscuit she buried earlier in the garden...

Hope you're enjoying all the scents of Spring that stir your memory too...

Such a sweet new banner! Madelaine looks very cute in her crown - she is such a sweetie - I do hope she found her hidden treasure!

You have a beautiful and peaceful garden Susan - it feels very calm ... very zen.

The power of scent to take us back in time - yes, I know it too! For me it's less about nature though - the smell of a coke oven takes me back to Sydney NS when it was a booming steel town - the smell of wet pavement and what I think of as 'worm smell' in the first few minutes of rainfall take me back to childhood in south western Ontario just as quickly as the smell of new mown grass - the smell of coffee/burnt sugar and vanilla takes me straight to the cafes of Germany and my years as a young mother.
Madelaine is just lovely, by the way! I'm showing that picture to Miss Rosie, as inspiration.

You are so right, just a hint of wisteria takes me back to the most wonderful memories. Your banner is just delightful, Madeline is just a princess with her little crown and the kitties look as sweet as can be. Thank you ever so much for sharing.
Take care,
Sallie

I always do my best to enjoy the scents of spring albeit in between
bouts of sneezing!

It is amazing how a simple scent can bring back some of your fondest memories.

Ah, little Madaleine, did you find your biscuit? No doubt after you left the bower of roses where you posed with simple elegance in your well deserving crown. And that strawberry jam cooking in one's own kitchen. A scent to savor for sure.

I love all the photos in your beautiful post. Whenever I smell lilacs it takes me back to my grandmother's garden.

Oh Miss Madelaine is just too cute in your new banner! She wears that crown so well too (: I think scent is one of my strongest faculties. Eye sight is adjusting... hearing is a little tougher in a crowded room full of people talking... but scent is something else. Funny how a whiff of something can jerk you right back to a particular place and time... a scene pulled up out of the cobwebs of memory and is suddenly as alive as the day is actually happened. I love those times. Thank you for reminding me~ xxVicki

Hello, thank you so much for visiting and your lovely comments!
I know exactly what you mean... umh.. the scent of strawberry jam on the stove, and the wonderful fragrance of peony's.

Your site is wonderfully restful and sweet, and your animals are adorable! Miss Madeline's banner shot is just priceless. I have a princess of a dog too, but she's too much of a hooligan to dress up! Thank you for sharing your photos and your thoughts. I'll visit again soon...
