Mesmerizing Tranquility

The repetitious clicking of the knitting needles...

The passing of the needle through the linen threads and counting of the stitches...
All must have had a mesmerizing effect for needlewomen of the past.

Even the shelling of the first crop of peas holds a repetition that is rhythmic, comforting, almost hypnotic...

Magically the kitties seem to find mesmerizing tranquility wherever they lie...

Perfectly illustrated and described. I find my needlework to be the most relaxing activity - along with weeding long borders and paths. It's an opportunity for meditation and healing the soul after a busy week.
I was so happy to be online when you posted - I can take this thought with me as embarque on a difficult workday.
Have you seen The Women at the Shaw? My sister saw it last week and loved it - and we have a family connection with the production.

Beautiful post Susan. I am just about to pick some salad leaves and 'fresh as a daisy' peas from the garden!

Your poetic words are just what I need after a busy and trying day, helped as well by the image of your very tranquil kitties.

Have a wonderful evening.

PS Summer has well and truly arrived this week with lovely warm sunshine, blue skies and the occasional white fluffy cloud. Perfick!

Love the photos. Your cats are beautiful! I guess that's one of the reasons we knit and sew...... and shell peas. I can't say I really enjoy the pea shelling though, because it usually needs to be done when I am busy! Enjoy the weekend. Ros

It does sound very peaceful, tranquil and therapeutic! Perhaps a nice diversion from pressing chores of the day? Lovely thoughts, and cute kitties!

Now that I finally know how to knit (simply!) I find it very relaxing. I tend to be one who cant just sit still, so I find it nice to sit for a bit and rest and yet have something to show for it ;)
Hope you're having a lovely summer!~

A wonderful new style of your blog- I like it :-)
Your exotic kitties are so elegant and beautiful- I love them... a beautiful photo of them- so full of love and sinlence- they look a little bit magic- like an old, wise man ...
The wool looks so cuddly- I love cuddly things. It´s good to feel them- I enjoy that reverently...(I hope, that´s the right word-...)
I like peas- the taste so sweet. And I like that sort of work- if it´s mesmerizing. Your brain is melting with your work- that´s zen :-) You think only to that, what you do. I love that... melting away with it...

Enjoy your weekend, a big hug for your furries:-)

Love- Ines

I was so excited to see your post Susan! Isn't it funny how repetitiion brings us that contentment that we thought we would get from going and doing exciting things? I have found that while I do love to go and do, I love the homecaring tasks bring me the most peace. I thank you for helping me ponder this fact today, dear freind.
hugs

Oooh how lovely your wool looks! It reminds me of a wild-flower called,'Old Man's Beard' or the tufts of sheeps wool you sometimes see caught on bits of bramble in the hedges.

Your two cats are gorgeous..and your post has such a tranquil feel..lovely!

Hello thank you so much for visiting it's so exciting turning on the blog and finding comments. I can't remember seeing the film 'North and South' but I know of it. Not Newcastle, we are about 150 miles from that city, in Manchester suburbs. No doubt you have heard of the TV programme 'Coronation Street'? We don't live in a house like the one's portrayed, although I did when I was little. Those homes don't have gardens only small paved area's called 'back yards'.

Love the look of the blog nowadays, Miss M! So soothing...
of course there would be no 'bad hair days' for "The Girls" so they are always photogenic. I am surprised they have time to snooze with all of that gorgeous yarn laying in wait. Perhaps they are 'spent' from a long day at play, in that picture.

I think you are so smart to figure out for yourself (and all of us) that the simple things.... shelling the peas, knitting, etc....soothe the soul bombarded with the chaos of the 'outside' world. I do think you should have added a photo with a large slice of coconut cream pie to the post. A girl can never have too much contentment, or too much of a little sweet dessert. ;-)
Bisous FGS,
Karen

Hallo Susan, thanks for dropping by my blog. Yes rhythmic sounds and actions are mesmerising, aren't they?
My favourite sound would still be the clickety-click, clickety-clack of the old trains, though.
