The Perils of Nature

When the perils of Nature strike it is often the inconvenience and suffering to humans that is felt most...
But trees, forests and wildlife also succumb to her wrath.
This past Thursday the winds throughout the peninsula reached 95+ km . (75m.) per hour and continued for the entire day... when all was said and done a path of devastation was left in its wake.

The mighty maple that stood at the top of our country lane, where once I waited as a child for the school bus lay victim to the gusts.

I gathered nests from the ground strewn willy nilly across the lawns... each a sanctuary but now no longer able to hold the eggs that were soon to be laid.
We may have had no power for 4 days measured by the stillness in the household but perhaps it was an asset, creating one to indulge in hand sewing, knitting, campstove cooking and reflection...

Strangely enough though the devastation was predominate in areas, beauty still dotted the landscape...

holding the promise of flowers and fruits yet to come...

I have been hearing about the bad weather and wondering if any of my blogging friends were affected. That is so sad I love trees. We have had 40 an hours winds before. I can't even imagine anything stronger. Miss Maddie and the kitties must have been wondering whats going on.Take care Cheri

OMG Susan winds of that strength!!! Just as well there were no children there at the bus stop...4 days without power, how inconvenient but I remember once during floods we had 3 days without power....and what fun we did have when we lived in the country...campfires...wood fire for heating...the children playing...such fond dear memories...Thank goodness you remain safe...I'm sure there is much fruit and beauty to come for you as Summer approaches...Dzintra

Oh what a handsome tree it was. With luck, those birds will make new nests. So glad you all weathered the blow.

Nature is an amazing thing isn't it? It breaks the heart to see such a big beautiful tree destroyed. Hopefully the little birds will find new nests nearby to start their family. The joy of life!

So glad everyone is OK at your house!

Hi Susan,
How frightening to see the devastation from this storm. So glad that you and your family are OK. I am glad that you have collected those found nests...they are such works of art! Hope the rest of spring brings more beauty and peace.
Take care, Laura :)

You poor things - it must have been dreadful. Funnily enough we have had strong winds here, too, and my husband and daughter were scarily close to a fallen tree.
