Time To Be Cozy

At this time of year when the daylight shadows change and the hours of sunshine are less, the word cozy summarizes exactly what we wish for. It speaks of an intimate place we seek that reflects warmth.

Perhaps surrounded by one's favorite things or just a big comfy chair to snuggle in to, cozy seems to become more sought after during this transition to autumn and then into winter.

Sometimes it involves a favorite old movie, a good book, a bowl of popcorn, rich coffee, a glass of wine or a slice of homemade pumpkin pie. (Do you ever notice how I manage to bring food into almost everything I write about?)

Mostly it occurs when the sun has faded away, the coolness of evening has set in, all the requirements of the day have been fulfilled and you finally get to relax.

The whole state of being eases into cozy as I sit by the wood-stove, the soft light from the fire flickering around me, cat curled up on my lap, and realizing it doesn't get any better than this.

Write to me and let me know what inspires your cozy.

Susan:
Your way with words is very cozy.
The pumpkin pie, the cat on ones lap and the evening hours spells it out quite well for me too.
Do you still have your apron on or did you hang it up before you sat down to relax?
Thank you
carole
I had to re-comment as I had misspelled 3 words : (

I love that word! To me cozy is a crackling afternoon fire, tea with my family or friends, and sitting down for a cozy talk and laughing a lot. Candles, fall etc.

A fire, a good book, the cat and dog and my husband and myself come in a close second.

Tonight was COZY for all 4 of us...I made my special homemade chili, we made our first fire of the season, the kitty slept behind the fireplace, I had a cup of good hot coffee, the wind was humming the windows, a Cary Grant movie was playing, (really I think any movie in black and white is cozy...even Perry Mason is cozy to me, and after the movie, my husband read a chapter of "The Wizard of Oz" to the kids (YOU inspired me with one of your previous posts, to drag out this old book and read it to the kids!)...fall time is SO comforting.

Mmm....smoked chicken and black bean soup with warm corn bread. When I get the urge to make that, I know fall is here.
And whenever I check in here, I go grab a snack- all this talk of food, you know!Keep it up, I love it.

Cozy is my families favorite word because it denotes together time, crisp bed sheets and a huge comforter. Tea, escarptment leaves, the niagra gorge almost empty of the glorious summer canopy and hiking boots. Cozy...I love that word. Crockpot nights, fire in fireplace, waking up with a cold nose but a warm bed calling out...don't leave! Cozy...I love that word. Thanks for letting me think about it...

Hmmmm, "cozy"....snug in a warm bed on a cold night with a good book.

Hazelnut coffee at night(even though I know it will keep me up) with carrot cake, while watching "It's A Wonderful Life" for the 20 bizillionth year in a row.

Oh, now you have me longing for cooler weather!
